The Beautiful Britania Islands

I set my alarm at 4:30 a.m., I got up as soon as heard it and prepared my things. I then went out to go to the restaurant to have coffee, my two companions was already there making final arrangement for the island hopping trip to Britania Islands. Not very long after others arrived excited and with renewed energy to explore the Islands of Britania.

Britania Islands is located at Barangay Britania in the municipality of San Agustin Surigao del Sur. These 24 islands and islets are magnificently scattered along the stretch of Lianga Bay are distinctly different from each other varying in sizes, shapes & features. Most of these Islands and islets are blessed with powdery white sand finer than the sands of Boracay and other famous beaches in the Philippines.

There only 5 islands that are considered to be the main tourist attraction and these are Boslon Island, Hiyor-hiyoran Island, Panlangagan Islands, Hagonoy Islands and the Naked Islands.

From La Entrada Resort, we walk through a foot bridge that lead us to a landing where our banca (motorized boat) was waiting to bring us to Britania Islands.

We spend the whole morning in the different islands and its beauty has captivated our whole senses. I have been to so many islands in the country and Britania Islands differs from it all. All the Islands and islets has been blessed with such rare and untouched beauty and I am afraid with the influx of many tourist LGU might be tempted to develop it to commercialism allowing resorts to build structures in the islands. Hopefully they will just leave developments in the mainland and preserve the islands for the eyes, heart and spirit to enjoy.

Another observation was the facility in the banca. It has insufficient number of life vest, there are 21 of us and the life vest are only 5. The banca crew also did not give us the names of the islands we are going to or even when we arrived in a particular island. Maybe tourism in this part of the country is new and so Department of Tourism should look into this and improve the facility, teach the banca owner to become local tourist guides to make the stay of visitors pleasant and unforgettable. Britania Islands has great potential for tourism and if LGU will do well, it will surely bring in a lot for their municipality.

Nevertheless, we enjoyed our adventure in Britania Islands it was pleasant and unforgettable one =)

  21. I probably wouldn't push through with the island hopping tour if the banca didn't have sufficient life vests for its guests. I mean, as beautiful as the islands maybe, I don't think I could risk my life for it (sadly, I don't know how to swim). I really do hope the people there will help each other grow into better stewards, as it's always more fun to go around the Philippines when things are safe too. :)
