Dog Agility Competition (All Breed)

3rd National Davao Dog Summit - Dog Agility Competition
A few months ago I watched a movie Marley & Me The Puppy Years twas one feel good movie especially to us dog lovers.  I have lots of favorite scene in the movie.  It may just be fiction, yet it dealt a lot with the temperaments and traits of labs and I just couldn't help saying  "yeah, sure like Bruno". And because of this movie I became interested in having Bruno trained, though till now I haven't found a trainer yet.

The participant and the judge
One of the event in the 3rd National Davao Dog Summit was the Agility Competition with participants from Manila, Cebu, Bacolod & Davao.  When I arrived at Peoples Park Davao the competition on small breed category already started.  It's my first time to watch this kind of competition that is why I was so amaze that dogs can really take commands or follow the handlers commands.

According to Wikipedia "Dog Agility" is a dog sport in which the handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy.  Dogs run off-leash with no food or toys as incentives and the handler are cannot touch the dog nor the obstacles when giving instructions, his/her control are limited to voice, movement and various body signals, requiring exceptional training of the animal and coordination of the handler.

An agility course consist of a set of standard obstacles laid out by the judge in a design of his/her own choosing in an area of a specified size.  The obstacles are marked with numbers indicating the order in which they must be completed.

Courses are complicated enough that a dog could not complete them correctly without human direction.  In competition, the handler must assess the course, decide on handling strategies, and direct the dog through the course, with precision and speed equally important.

The participants came from different places and with different kind of breed.  Pure bred, mix-bred and there are even "Aspin" or asong pinoy that may not be a big winner yet received the loudest applause from the crowd.

I haven't had the time to wait for the result but one thing is sure I had a great time watching the agility competition.  Wishing one of this days Bruno can train and be able to participate in one of the future events.
